Mother of Pearl is an organic gem formed from protective layers of calcium carbonate which line the inside of the pearl oyster shell. This is the same natural process and material as the pearl, and takes up to seven years to form. Different specimen has different color combination that makes it very eye-catching. The beautiful iridescent colors you see in mother-of-pearl are caused by reflective light bouncing of the various layers of growth in the shell. Mother of pearl slabs are handcrafted slab available for custom fabrication.
Genuine Shell Slab (Solid Mother of Pearl Slab, Solid MOP Slab). Material used: Freshwater shell and seashell mother of pearl Standard Slab Size: 48 inches x 96" (4 feet x 8', 1220x2440mm).
Shell Chip Size: 25x25mm, 25x15mm, 20x10mm, etc.
Backing available in NATURAL MARBLE SLAB & ALUMINUM HONEYCOMB SLAB or PANEL.
Thickness of marble backing: 20mm thick. (58 KGS or 128 LB per square meter; 5.39 KGS or 11.88 LB per SF when laminated with 2mm thick MOP shell)
Thickness of Aluminum Honeycomb Slab/Panel backing: 18mm thick. (10.8 KGS or 23.82 LB per square meter; 1 KGS or 2.21 LB per SF when laminated with 2mm thick MOP shell)
Standard Overlay: 1/16" (that's 2mm).
Finished edges (tabletop applications) and custom sizes are available.
